Case Study: I wish that I had flood insurance.

"I got started doing genealogy about six years ago. I have enjoyed it tremendously. I compiled hundreds of pages of information including family historys, four generation worksheets and copies of journals and diaries. I had it all stacked neatly in piles on the floor of my home office. And then it happened. I hadn't been downstairs in the basement for about three days when I started to smell a musty smell. As I investigated I found the office soaking wet. Apparantly a water line had broken and flooded the room. The carpet became sopping wet and then of course the paper piles wicked up all the water they could hold as well. Everything was ruined. In only a couple of days six years of work was turned into mushy piles of pulp. I was angry with myself because I should have been more careful. I know that the reality is that very few people really prepare for this type of event. When I started over re-collecting the information, I looked for options for protecting my work and I found a great one. Now as I proceed I'm also digitizing all of my information and saving it in ScanSafeData so this type of disaster will never happen again. I guess now its like having a special form of flood insurance. But of course with the backup service it also protects against fire, theft, and any other forms of loss or destruction. More importantly than anything else, now I know that my family heritage is being secured and preserved for future generations. I'm glad to have the SSD program. I just wish I had found it sooner."
